As president of the Inter-American Development Bank for 15 years (2005-2020), Moreno played a pivotal role in advising governments in Latin America on how to address issues such as poverty, mass migration, trade, women in the workforce, and education. He contends that the current pandemic did not cause the economic hardships facing the region, but has exacerbated deep, pre-existing inequalities. Combatting these inequalities requires a new mindset and innovative policy reforms that must take place within the boundaries of democratic and capitalist institutions.
