Following the success of his debut album Radial Nerve, the multi-talented composer/producer Laszlo is back with an all new album: Level Five Stage One.
Whilst Radial Nerve showcased Laszlo's broad ranging musical influences and multi instrumental talent, Level Five Stage One is a darker and more minimal offering from the London based producer. Fans of the sweet mandolin melodies of Mr. Sunshine might be surprised by the departure to an entirely electronic, synth-led delivery. Laszlo has focused on just a few select synthesisers and minimal production techniques to create an evocative contemporary sound. The mood is intense and surreal, with a science fiction fantasy edge that takes the listener on an epic journey.
This journey has been a significant emotional release for Laszlo, who has experienced a frustrating year tarnished by health problems. An overarching theme of light out of darkness emerges as the album progresses, with each track bringing twists and turns, from the screaming crescendo of the opening track Dawn of Lochrian to the epic Legend of Lumbar to the outright wackiness and humour of Crazy Cuckoo and Manic Mayhem.
Glancing over the track names and album title, it's clear that video game nostalgia from the late 80s and 90s era have played their part in influencing Level Five Stage One. These retro themes are combined with production techniques from contemporary electro, house, IDM and dubstep. As ever, Laszlo's compositional expertise gives the music a harmonic richness rarely found in contemporary electronica, this time focusing on darker scales / intervals and experimental chord structures.
Since the release of Radial Nerve, a publishing deal has been signed with the prestigious Mute records, as well as a deal with the popular YouTube channel Candyrat which has led to hundreds of thousands of new fans watching live Laszlo performances online. Level Five Stage One represents the first chapter in a series of releases, so be sure to listen to the rest of the journey created by Laszlo and his Lydian Label friends!
