Jan Plecháč and Henry Wielgus sketched the shape of the Lasvit Neverending Glory chandeliers by rotating the silhouette around its own axis. The large pieces of glass, for which even the wooden moulds are enormous are so demanding to produce that it would not be possible to create anything bigger. In the individual silhouettes, it is possible to recognize iconic chandeliers from five of the world’s most eminent concert halls and theatres; La Scala in Milan, Palais Garnier in Paris, the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Czech Republic’s Estates Theater in Prague, and the Bolshoi Theater in Moscow.

$LASVIT - VOLCANO BY MAXIM VELČOVSKÝ ǀ THE NATURE OF GLASS LASVIT presents Volcano - one of the lighting novelties of 2020. Get ready to play with fire as our Creative Director Maxim Velčovský reveals the nature of his work in the middle of a forest in Northern Bohemia. Near LASVIT glassworks in the Czechia borderland, you can see the panorama of the mountains which were long ago formed by volcanic activity. Designer Maxim Velčovský thought about the process which went into the creation of the glassmakers’ homeland, the shapes of the hot magma and the surface of the hills once the lava cooled down and hardened… “I wanted to create a symbol of the volcano, a pyramid shaped by means of crumpling and deforming metal sheets, so that I might be able to create a specific surface structure which would diffract light. It is thus a little model volcano hailing from our volcanic lands which went extinct long ago,” says LASVIT’s creative director Maxim Velčovský. Wood isn´t the best material for making a form for a perfect cone with this wrinkled surface. Volcano is therefore hand-blown into a form created out of a special material, which is easier to shape. When you think about volcanoes, they are the embodiment of the fire element in the whole universe, and what other material would better reflect this element than glass, which is born of fire as well? For the first time the company also launches work of their art director and renowned Czech designer Maxim Velčovský. In Milan Lasvit also launches the world´s premiere of Lasvit Kinetic Sculptures designed by Czech young talents Libor Sošťák, Petra Krausová and Jakub Nepraš. The sculptures conduct reflections and refractions of light in a dance. They tell individual stories of transformed elements, combining the centuries-old traditions of Bohemian craftsmanship into modern designs.
