LASVIT presents Press Iced - one of the lighting novelties of 2020. It may look familiar as it´s an upgraded version of the Press lamp by Nendo. Let Marek Effmert - our R&D Glass Specialist - walk you through the manufacturing process behind the new "crackled" finish from our glassworks in Northern Bohemia.
The glass technique is sometimes called “ice glass,” and gave the design its name: “Press Iced.” The hot, hand-blown piece is rolled in wet sawdust, then inserted into the furnace again, once again cooled down in a bucket of water and finally heated up one last time. The moisture makes the glass crack and the heat then seals the cracks to make the piece whole again.
As you know, Press lamps are hand-blown into their wooden forms. The tubes are pressed as though they have been pinched, and light sources are fitted into the narrow space seemingly without effort. Simple, yet original. The Press design is available in two types: a pendant lamp and a floor lamp
