Today I'm covering one of my favorite Green Day songs, Last Of The American Girls, live exactly how Tre plays it. This live performance is fantastic, with one of Billie's best vocal performances. The drums in this song are also awesome, the highlight being the chorus with smashing cymbals, bass drum and floor tom that is so catchy. Tre Cool's energy is also high, just watching him play inspires me to pick up my sticks. The most epic moment is when Tre does his classic raising his left arm high and smashing the snare, go to 2:08 to see!
Last of the American girls is one of those songs that never gets old. The Green Day songs that depict an underdog, who is challenged by society, but decides to follow their own path is truly inspiring. Songs like She, Last Of The American Girls and Gloria come to mind. This may not be the intended meaning of this song, but that's what this song means to me.
Last of the American Girls is one of the very first songs to get me into Green Day. The first song that I ever heard from Green Day was 21st Century Breakdown, it was magnificent, but the second song that got me truly hooked to Green Day was Last Of The American Girls. At the time, I didn't fully understand what the song was about, but all I knew was that I loved it.
