Our final day on the Danube started quietly.
We rolled out of the campsite in Tulln knowing this would be a shorter ride, but not necessarily an effortless one. The path followed the Danube River all day, smooth and scenic, but the wind had other plans. A steady headwind turned easy miles into honest work.
Before setting off, I talk about the campsite — great location, but loud bars, hard ground, and the kind of sleep that leaves you functional, not refreshed. On the trike, I keep an eye on a sidewall puncture that’s been nagging at me, and experiment with pulling through the pedal stroke instead of just pushing. Whether that’s genius or nonsense… still undecided.
Despite the wind, this was one of those rides that reminds you why river routes are so loved. Flat paths, water views, long conversations, and the feeling that the journey is gently closing a chapter rather than slamming it shut.
Near the end of the day, I couldn’t resist jumping into the river — a cold, perfect punctuation mark on our last Danube ride before rolling into Vienna.
No rush. No drama. Just a really good final day on the bike.
