Okay, so, I've fallen in love with this song again. I love this new version and it feels so much more true to the band than the original, and it also feels like it fits more on the original Wellness album than the demo version of this song ever will.
That said, my exposure to Wellness back in like 2015 was through a channel that is no longer active, just called "Cure." and reuploaded the entire album on YouTube with these very beautiful backgrounds that I'm still nostalgic over after all these years. I miss that channel not just because of the images used, Last Dinosaurs didn't have Wellness and some other B-Sides available in my country yet, so this channel was my gateway to listening to them as a kid.
I really wanted to recreate the feeling of hearing this song as if it was part of the album back then and had Cure uploaded it also. I searched for hours for the perfect image that fits this song that is similar to the images used by that channel, trying to avoid AI as much as possible, as finding images that aren't AI nowadays is almost impossible. My kid self definitely would have been disappointed and would have ran into obstacles trying to find images to upload to this channel for my own music and the covers that I did, which I did a lot. I miss the internet when it wasn't filled with awful looking AI, so I checked for ways to search on google without including AI, and it led to me finding Wolfgang Hasselmann on Unsplash, and with further checks, confirmed that Unsplash is one of the rare websites that prohibit users to upload images generated by AI, which I love and was so happy to discover. The image I chose is simply gorgeous and definitely would have had mini me captivated with the song if this came out back then.
As for the song edit, I really love the original, however I felt it did need that solo drum pattern that Dan started the original version with before the rest of the band kicks in. I felt that the explosive guitar riff in the outro needed to last another 8 bars because it feels right to me. I also added chorus to the synth at the start and the end because the band have a different version of the backing track when they play live, and I like how it sounds. Other subtle changes include a more tighter transition between the guitar solo and the final chorus.
BTW, my favourite part of the original version was Sam's bassline. I was SO GLAD to hear the new version pay homage to it in the intro, it's so satisfying to listen to and play on bass!!
