TRUMPF's high-speed laser metal deposition (HS-LMD) enables the production of brake discs that comply with the Euro 7 standard. This beam forming technology not only ensures an optimum welded joint between the brake disc and the coating but can also be integrated into any production process and is suitable for various brake disc types and coating types. The new Euro 7 standard has significantly changed the framework conditions for brake discs. This includes the reduction of the permitted pollutant values and the definition of mandatory limit values for non-exhaust-related particulate matter from tire and brake abrasion.
This poses major challenges for brake disc manufacturers. The good news is that TRUMPF already has a proven process that is suitable for large-scale production: high-speed laser metal deposition (HS-LMD). In this process, a thin layer of a high-strength and abrasion-resistant metal-carbide mixture is applied to the conventional brake disk, which significantly increases the wear and corrosion resistance. This achieves a high level of process reliability for uncompromising brake disc quality and enables highly productive series production.
