Larkin Street Revival is a partnership-driven initiative bringing near-term investments to Larkin Street (from Fulton to Post) to celebrate the corridor’s identity as the gateway to the Tenderloin neighborhood’s International District. Catalyzed by an initial two-year private investment of $5 million and multi-year funding from San Francisco’s Office of Economic & Workforce Development (OEWD), this initiative advances several priorities of the 2025 Tenderloin Community Action Plan. The project combines on-the-ground physical improvements with policy interventions to reduce storefront vacancies, improve nighttime activation and visibility, and honor the corridor’s rich cultural legacy and artistic character.
Central to this effort is celebrating Larkin Street’s deep Southeast Asian and immigrant heritage and making the corridor visible and inviting again. The initiative underscores Larkin Street’s dual role as both a vital commercial street for the Tenderloin neighborhood and a destination for arts, culture, and global cuisine more broadly. Building on long-standing partnerships and neighborhood planning efforts, this public-private initiative includes highly visible interventions like lighting enhancements, creative installations that activate vacant storefronts, and pop-up programs. It will also work to fill vacancies with anchor arts and entertainment organizations and support both established and new cultural events that welcome neighbors, nearby students, and citywide audiences. Behind the scenes, enhanced safety coverage, expanded cleaning operations, and targeted business support will stabilize the corridor and foster economic opportunity. The initiative will also serve as a blueprint for policy and process reforms aimed at revitalizing corridors and fostering innovative ground-floor uses, such as music and entertainment venues and creative retail storefronts.
Rolling out in phases beginning early 2026, Larkin Street Revival is designed to deliver visible change quickly while building toward a comprehensive and sustained transformation that is rooted in support for existing Tenderloin businesses, neighbors, and institutions. Early actions—including storefront facade enhancements and strengthened stewardship—will establish momentum for a cleaner, safer corridor that serves as a platform for creativity and cultural expression.
