With a propeller diameter of 7.6 meter, the VBS 2150 CP propeller system is the so far largest MAN Alpha design. The hub weighs 36 ton and on top shall be added the five blades weighing 26 ton, thus in total 62 ton. Complete with shafting the finished CP propeller system assembly comes to a weight of approx. 200 ton.
CP propellers for cargo ships are in general very popular in small- and medium size vessels, like coastal, shortsea and feeder ships – or typical where maneuverability and flexibility is of high importance. Recently, however, MAN Energy Solutions have seen a growing tendency with requests for larger diameter CP propellers and less installed power - also for large long-range vessels typically powered by two-stroke low-speed propulsion engines.
