I will compare an MSI gaming laptop, with a newer Dell Precision laptop workstation, with a BOXX APEXX4 Desktop workstation with 18 cores.
Generic benchmark doesn't give the full picture of how fast or not is a computer. Rendering scales very well on multiple threads, but most other tools in 3d doesn't scale that well.
I create different tests comparing edit poly, heavy geometry display in viewport, deformers, retopology tests and heavy simulations in tyflow to stress test cpus and gpus . You will see very interesting things!
All tests are done in 3ds Max 2023 with some comparisons in Blender and Houdini. We will see what works well using multi core, and what tools are single threaded.
Sometimes people buy the "Fastest" rendering machine, even when they are not doing renders all day. So its important to know where you spend more time in 3d to choose wisely!
