August 6, 2000. The anniversary of the day we dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan. Thousands of glowing paper lanterns are floated on the river, each commemorating a person or persons who died in the blast. A survivor describes what she saw and expresses her wish that this never happen again. Woven throughout, the words of Martin Luther King Jr. ask us: why should we love our enemies?

Biography: Velcrow Ripper grew up in Gibson, British Columbia, and studied film at Concordia University in Montréal. In a 25-year career, he has written, photographed and directed more than 30 films and videos, both fiction and documentary and often with an experimental bent. He is also a writer, Web artist, and sound designer. He did the sound design on such films as The Corporation (LeoAward for Best Overall Sound in a Documentary), and A Place Called Chiapas (Best Sound at Hot Docs and the Leo Awards). Velcrow Ripper teaches film at the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design. He is in development on a new feature doc studying of the evolution of mankind, entitled Evolve or Dissolve.
