Community Cleanup Day is an annual tradition in Lansing, Illinois. Volunteers register with the Village, and Village staff assign teams to various locations throughout town. Lansing Journal staff and a few additional volunteers formed a crew that was sent to an open field near Torrence Avenue. When we first saw the amount of litter waiting for us, we weren't sure we'd be able to make a difference. But working together we brightened up the area in a couple of hours — and had a lot of fun.
We did NOT find a turtle or a skull like we did last year —
