After 11 years at the same company, I was laid off at 40—and for the first time in my adult life, I don’t have a corporate job waiting for me on Monday morning.
Instead of immediately trying to rebuild the same life, I’m taking a real shot at growing Bay Moto Photo, the motorcycle photography business I built on nights and weekends. In just a few days, we’re loading the cameras into the RV and heading to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally to find out whether this side hustle can become a sustainable full-time business.
This episode is the beginning of that journey. I talk honestly about losing the stability, income, and identity that came with my corporate career, why I felt trapped even when I knew I was unhappy, and what it means to start over at 40 with a family depending on me. Sturgis will be the first major test: can motorcycle photography, event photography, travel, and entrepreneurship support the life I’m trying to build—or will I eventually have to return to a traditional job?
