Crowds at the paddle out for Lahaina cheered and hollered Thursday, honoring victims and calling for hope one year after the Maui fires.
Thousands gathered for the event, which was one of several events planned by Maui County around the one-year anniversary of the fire.
Hokule’a and Mo’okiha O Pi’ilani, Maui’s voyaging canoe, were on hand for the occasion. A third sailing canoe, Mo’olelo, burned in the fire.
