PACOIMA - At 9:01AM on March 20, 2025, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire and explosion in the 13000 block of West Remington Street in Pacoima.
Firefighters arrived to find a partially-collapsed single family dwelling with light smoke showing. A victim (24M) with severe burns and open wounds stated he had been alone with pets inside the home at the time of the explosion; he was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
Fire risk in the structure was quickly mitigated, and first responders focused on ensuring life safety around the collapse. A family member arrived on scene and stated four dogs had been in the home -- a search for the animals was initiated, and three were quickly rescued. The last dog was trapped by a leash inside the footprint of the building and patiently waited for rescuers -- specialized crews assessed structural integrity before authorizing personnel to affect this final rescue.
LAFD Urban Search and Rescue, LAFD HazMat specialists, LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism, LA Department of Building and Safety, LAPD Bomb Squad, LAPD Major Crimes, LA Animal Services SMART Team, LA Department of Water and Power, LA Department of Transportation, and the gas company all responded to this scene.
