The Greene Space at WNYC & WQXR | Ladies Night: Women Who Shaped Hip-Hop in New York City @GreeneSpaceNY | Uploaded July 2023 | Updated October 2024, 13 hours ago.
Hip-hop was born in New York City. For decades it was a male-dominated genre, but women have always been present in building and driving the culture forward.
Join us for a discussion moderated by journalist Clover Hope featuring women who helped shape hip-hop in New York City and are pushing the genre forward through their music, communities, dance, and art. Speakers will include Ladies of Hip-Hop founder Michele Byrd-McPhee, international street dance icon Ana Garcia, a.k.a. Rokafella, and Bronx MC Connie Diiamond.
This program is part of WNYC and Gothamist’s celebration of hip-hop’s 50th birthday, with special coverage on our air and digital platforms all month long.
