This animation shows weekly sea surface temperature anomalies from mid-May through mid-December 2010. A swath of blue--cooler-than-average temperatures--emerges across the tropical Pacific, signalling the emergence of La Niña. (This animation is a movie version of an original Adobe Flash project.)
