Day 12 of a video journal of me attempting the theme and its 24 variations of Arcangelo Corelli's 'La Folia' op. 5, no. 12 for viola and piano.
Another double recording. Possibly the last double of the bunch. We're on the final 2 pages! Getting close to all 24 done! I went though a bit of emotional turmoil this week so I didn't practice as much as I should have on these two variations. Playing 'con fuoco' (with fire) let me release some tension, however, so that was nice. I think variation 18 might be one of my favorites. It's probably why I felt the need to just go right into it after 17. Pardon the few sour notes in 17. Also pardon the incorrect rhythm. I didn't modify these variations much. I think I added a total of 3 extra chords between the two variations. Two in 17, and one in 18. Just adding a bit more fuel to the fire. Though I did change the dynamic marking of 18 from 'pianissimo' and 'dolce' to 'forte' and 'con fuoco'. I didn't like the soft and sweet sound with this variation. Apologies to the editors.
Retroactively dedicated to Carmen Elena Rizzo Soto. Happy birthday! Keep being awesome!
