During this YouTube Live, Ellie will show us how she transformed a concept painting into a production-friendly hero asset. Working with Mari’s node graph, utility maps, and Python scripting, Ellie will explain how she was able to maintain her artistic flow while developing technically accurate imagery.
Bio:
Ellie Dupont is a Senior Texture Artist at ILM London. Prior to that, she worked as a Lead Texture Artist at Framestore. With over 12 years experience in the VFX industry, she specialises in character and organic textures. She has worked on many films, including more recently: The Marvels (2023), Wonka (2023), Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023), and Dr Strange and the Madness of the Multiverse (2022). Ellie began her route into the industry at High School, where she took Art A level, before pursuing a Foundation Degree in Art and Design, a Degree in Fine Art, and a further Degree in Computer Visualisation and Animation. She has won multiple awards for her personal work and has been featured in 3D World Magazine. She is also a proud mother of one child, and a pet mother to four cats, 3 Guinea Pigs, a Bearded Dragon, and various other pets!

Bios:
Luca Prestini is the ML Data Specialist at Foundry, working closely with the Machine Learning teams to help develop tools and create new workflows for VFX. With a BA in 3D Design and Animation, Luca started his career as a freelance VFX artist working on Film and TV series. At the end of the project, he briefly joined the team at the University of Greenwich to teach Nuke and VFX before joining Foundry in 2019.
Johanna Barbier is a Senior Research Engineer in Machine Learning at Foundry where she develops AI tools for visual effects workflows. Since joining Foundry in 2019, Johanna has participated in the creation of many released ML tools, including Nuke CopyCat, the Cattery and the MLClientServer. She graduated in 2018 with an MSc in Computer Graphics & Machine Learning from Trinity College Dublin, as well as an MSc in Virtual Reality from Ecole Centrales de Nantes.
Mairéad Grogan is a Senior Research Engineer at Foundry working as part of the AI Research Team. She received an MSc and PhD in Computer Science from Trinity College Dublin in 2012 and 2016, with her PhD dedicated to 3D shape and image processing. She was a postdoctoral researcher in the V-SENSE group for three years, working in areas including light fields, colour processing and image compositing. In 2019, she joined the Research team at Foundry, specialising in machine learning algorithms for 3D scene reconstruction and image processing tasks.

Max Alexander:
Having worked in the industry for 12 years, Max started out as a runner in London’s Soho before moving on to work at a succession of well-known VFX houses including DNEG, Framestore and most recently, One Of Us. Max has contributed to a wide range of projects spanning the film, TV, and advertising worlds, with high-profile credits that include The Witcher, Bridgerton, and Luther: The Fallen Sun. As Compositing Supervisor at Vine FX, Max strives to tell stories through great visuals and invisible effects. Continually fascinated by new and emerging technologies, Max is always on a mission to learn new skills and sharpen his artistic eye.
Vahik Asoyan:
Vahik's career started back in 2008 as a generalist however after a few years later he found his passion in FX and compositing. This led Vahik to co-found Motion Scope studio pursuing his development of strong artistic skills in making commercials and VFX for TV and Films.

Bio:
Freddy Chávez Olmos was born in Puebla, Mexico, and is a member of the Directors Guild of Canada (DGC), where he has directed for CW and Netflix anthology series. He is also the Creative Director for Artificial Intelligence at Boxel Studio, where he brings more than 17 years of experience in feature films and television, having contributed to productions directed by Guillermo del Toro, Neill Blomkamp, Robert Rodriguez, Tim Burton, and Christopher Nolan. Working in the visual effects industry in Vancouver, Chávez Olmos has worked for multiple Oscar and Emmy Award-winning VFX studios, including Double Negative, Industrial Light & Magic, Method Studios, Wētā FX, Image Engine, FuseFX, and Scanline VFX, with credits including Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Mandalorian. With his first short film as a writer and director, entitled Shhh he received several international awards, and the project debuted online with nearly one million views. He also wrote an episode for the legendary Mexican horror anthology series La Hora Marcada, directed by Gigi Saul Guerrero, that premiered in 2023. Chávez Olmos is a sought-after guest speaker at venues including San Diego Comic-Con, TEDx, ACM SIGGRAPH, and Spark FX.

You’ll learn how to set up recipes for baking maps such as Ambient Occlusion, Curvature, Thickness, Position, Normal, or Displacement. Recipes can be baked with various render settings, such as resolution and bit depth. You can apply different bake settings to individual recipes or apply settings to a batch.
