The SENSOR Contract provides depot-level maintenance, repair and upgrade; contractor logistics support; and modernization of the U.S.'s world-wide network of ground-based space control, missile warning and missile defense sensors. These radar and optical systems are critical to the U.S.'s strategic posture and they directly support the following Air Force Space Command and U.S. Strategic Command Focus Capabilities: Space Situational Awareness Sensors and Data; and Tactical Warning and Missile Defense Tracking. More specifically, the missile warning and missile defense sensors sustained and modernized under the purview of the SENSOR contract are the eyes and ears of the Integrated Tactical Warning and Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) system that provides tactical warning and assessments of ballistic missile attacks on U.S. and allied countries, and that supports the engagement of those threats by the U.S. Missile Defense system. Moreover, all of the sensor within the SENSOR portfolio directly support the space surveillance mission and provides information needed to maintain timely, accurate and comprehensive space situational awareness.
In 2016, the Air Force, L3Harris, and subcontractors CAN-USA and Saint-Gobain completed repairs, resurfaced radar face , and replaced covers at the AN/FPS-85 Radar. This radar is located at the Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
