wow I'm exhausted. No clue how I feel about the animation. might grow on me in the -morning- afternoon. 10fps was the perfect speed for dramitc timing after shooting must of the shots that felt rushed at 12. The irregular framerate doesn't play perfectly but I don;t really notice. uh.......................
yeah. bts post on insta and maybe nam edoc eventually
goodnight

it is 5:30 in the morning as I write this.
I have been working on it since 11ish last night.
I wasted all of my time attempting to do a Spiderman web swing and eventually gave up and animated all these small vignettes.
12:46pm version of Code Man, I just added captions to really spell out the different "swings" as a way to kill time before making this public. I got a solid 4ish hours of sleep since. Feeling better.

edit: original title had "cotenst" in it, lol
Most of that time was spent on the grass.
(Those tufts of grass have unique reactions to the wind that stay consistent throughout the animation)
Took another half hour to mask everything, only to find that Stop Motion Studio kills the quality of the frame as soon as you mask on it. That's fun.
It's 4am as I write this.
Working on a failed BRAWL entry as well. expect that eventually.

I'll write something in the morning, probably. It's 3:30 AM and I've been doing this since 9 in the moring, don't think I'm lucid enough to say anything insightful here.
Good night,
-Code Man
I'll write a description later
looks like I was in the sms app for 11 of the 24 hours
then 4 hours in Power Director my editor

All changes:
-Added Code Man logo
(was originally left of so it could be looped infinitely)
-1080p footage
(the original was 720p from cropping because my phone's editor, Power Director, didn't offer a 4:3 render option so I had to crop the footage after the fact-- killing the quality. This version uses the old sound design with the original footage played overtop thanks to Davinci Resolve)
-Added ambiance/music
(The original was left 'intentionally' baren with just the natural sound effects. Although, I probably would have done some music similar to this at the time if I wasn't completing it so close to the deadline.)
-Slight sound tweaks
(louder sounds for crashing through the bush, quieter water splashes in the beginning. I did all the audio editing the first time around from my phone speakers and only learned after the fact how loud and detailed the splash sounds were in headphones, whoops but it should be.. better.. now)
-Less abrupt ending
(the original ending very abruptly to allow a viewer to play the video on repeat and not see the loop point. This edit has a logo at the beginning and a hint towards further loops, I think it works a little better as a self-contained film. Showing two full loops is all a viewer should need to enjoy it the first time and pick up on the details second viewing.)
Realizing moments before I post this that I forgot to add a black screen at the end to add end screens. Oh well, too much of a hassle to fix the edit, send it off to be cropped (cant figure out how to render in 4:3 in Resolve cause I'm new to propper editors, and clueless in general) and repost it to YouTube so I can copy over all this stuff. Too much effort to promote my stuff at the end of this video that will perform TERRIBLY I'm sure. If naM edoC has told me anything, consistent uploads make YouTube love you. I can only imagine it also works in reverse.

MANiFEST is this year's Bricks in Motion Summer Contest, the theme was 'experimental' I knew about this contest for about a month (the day after BRAWL ended) but I spent all of my time contemplating ideas, writing scripts, and building sets and figures. Eventually, I settled on a fun buddy cop comedy detective video with brick but figures, then I got way too ambitious and planned out a very large overarching story. I got attached to this idea so I shelved it to do it another time without a strict deadline. It will come out someday, probably for episodes, the story isn't totally written yet (but I have plenty of projects to do in the meantime. Long story short, I had a month to make an entry and ended up making this over the course of five days. After shelving the detective film I wanted to do something short and self-contained. I settled on this, the experimental/out of my comfort zone parts are: 8fps, 4:3 aspect ratio, and an endless loop. (plus liquid glass putty water)
5 days of work:
~16 hours in Stop Motion Studio
~4 hours in Power Director
filmed and edited on a Galaxy Note 10 (I swear it not this low res usually)

"feel like I've stumbled to the finish line..
I've made worse things for sure but I think I could have done much better, there are few impressive moments. I don't know for sure, my judgement is pretty skewed from the stress of how good the competition is and just tiredness. (currently 5am, started the bulk of the animation at 10) Let's hope this is much better in the morning (probably afternoon by the time I wake up)
I don't think I have anything else to ramble about."

wow all the thumbnails for my entries this year have been ugly, the only good one is the first one because I didn't use a screenshot. I should probably redo the last two

A more in-depth explanation of each clip:
0:00 - Intro
0:08 - "Chopping Down a Tree"
Animated at 15 fps, filmed over the course of two nights, sound done in one day.
0:32 - "Painting a Wall"
Animated at 15 fps, filmed over the course of three nights, sound done in one day.
1:02 - I was the judge, no entry for week three
I decide the theme and chose the top three this week because I got first the week prior.
1:08 - "Tiptoeing"
Animated at 10 fps (this is the only reason I am doing these descriptions for each week) Filmed over the course of two nights, the sound was done in one day. (It also took most of a day to mask all the footage, in nearly every shot with the thief there was a rig in the background to keep the figure steady. The old legs didn't have enough friction to hold the figure up.)
The challenge is still going, anyone can jump in any time..... everything you need to know is in here: youtu.be/bu0E-qwOQ0I
I started filming this video ten months ago and completed animation a month or two later in infrequent work sessions. I posted a small section of the fight in the green room to participate in MindGame Studios' Quarantine Daze and titled the video to advertise its eventual full release. I quickly ran into issues with sound editing and I gave up on the project. It had been so long since I animated the film that I had lost faith in the quality of the animation. I rebranded the Quarantine Daze video to not give false hope to those who wanted to see the full film.
Around two months ago, I started to enjoy sound editing and found an app (PowerDirector) that worked well and gave me a few extra tools to work with. I rediscovered this sci-fi zombie film and found a good music track to go with it. I had done some volume keyframing and experimenting for fun when I found out about VPLO Studio's zombie animation contest. The film I was already working on fit the theme so I decided to complete the sound design and release it for the contest. There are no explicit rules which stated that your entry needs to be created solely in January but I commented and asked on Instagram whether this entry would be acceptable. I never got an answer but would not complain if I was disqualified. Over the past month, I did the sound design, snow effects (snow elements filmed by me), and created a channel title card to tie the project together.
TL;DR: I animated this project 10 months ago and finally did the sound effects recently to enter the VPLO January Contest.

Edit: I got 9th place!! I'm surprised to be on the podium at all.
I am currently a third of the way through my newest film and it's only set up to the fight scene so far. It won't be out for a while.
I'm a little late but happy holidays, I hope you enjoyed it and thanks for watching.
