Ive built a Stencil Jig for fast and easy PCB assembly | makermoekoe maker.moekoe 2022-03-10 | Dealing with stencils is always tricky, because they have to be aligned perfectly to get great soldering results. So far, I was always using these stencils with spare PCBs around the project PCB which are fixed in position with tape. As I am using these stencils quite often in the last time I was thinking about creating a simple jig for it - and here it is. The Stencil-Jig is a simple DIY machine for PCB stenciling built with the Openbuilds V-slot system. The stencils can be clamped into the Stencil-Jig with the inner V-slot extrusions and the corresponding aluminum rods. With all the adjustment screws on the sides and the front, the PCB and the stencil can be aligned easily to match each other. It is based on an Ai-Thinker A7 GPS & GSM module which is communicating over serial with an ESP32 Pico D4. For input & output I have added two buttons and an 0.96" OLED display, but the main idea is that the device can be control by a smartphone App. As you can see in the end of the video I'm using the Blynk 2.0 App which works great for several IoT projects, even for those which are communicating over mobile radio.All in all the whole project is working fine, but for the next revision I have to optimize two things:1. The GPS u.fl connector wasn't grounded properly which is a huge drawback in signal strength. Therefore the GPS quality is only acceptable in optimal conditions, even with a good GPS antenna.2. The power path is not yet optimal. When the device is working a while, the battery looses capacity and cannot deliver enough energy for the power-hungry GSM module. This results in a ESP brownout when data is transmitted/received over mobile radio.I'm very happy with the result of this project. The transparent solder mask looks beautiful in combination with the acrylic glass cover. There will be a second, probably smaller, version of this thing in the near future, optimize for the use inside my van. Maybe it will be a modular solution which can be stacked onto the VanMeter board - but we will see.The VanMeter project is another project for my old camper van. ESP32 based Power Measurement Board for my Camper Van - Build and Installation | makermoekoe maker.moekoe 2021-09-05 | This video is sponsored by PCBWay. Here I am using it to measure the power of all the loads in my van, the solar panel power and the power of the 230V charger. There is another channel which is currently unused - or as you can see in the end of the video, was used to measure the correct voltage (differential measurement) of the solar panel. Unfortunately I didn't find the solution so far, but I would be happy if you have a hint for me. There are two more things which I haven't shown in the video. The first thing is that I have used the ESP32Remote ( youtu.be/5vRy--YCx7k ) as a remote display next to the phone APP. The other thing is that the VanMeter can not only measure power consumption, but also is able to control up to eight different outputs. The pinheader on the right side of the PCB is optimized to be used with one of those eight channel relay boards. These can be used to control lights, outlets, pumps, heater elements or whatever you want. Something like a smartvan. As you have probably noticed, this build is still a work in progress and some features are not yet implemented. Some other things will be added to this board in the future. So stay tuned! XXL 7 segment display as a 100K FOLLOWERCOUNTER | makermoekoe maker.moekoe 2020-12-14 | I've build a huge seven segment display to watch my Instagram followers hit the 100.000!Base material is 19mm medium-density fibreboard (MDF) which I milled down to a simple one digit seven segment thingi. The WS2812 LEDs are cutted to little strings of 5 pieces to be put inside all the segments. To diffuse the light from the LEDs I got the best results with using two types of foam between the lights and the 3mm white acrylic glass. A single layer of 5mm foam and three layers of 1mm foam. The segments can be connected to those little 3D printed jacks on the backside of every segments. It is build out of five super small PCBs which are only 10mm by 10mm each. Every PCB is equipped with nine WS2812 2020 LEDs and two capacitors. The resistor is just a soldering bridge and therefore it has a resistance of zero ohms.
