Most visitors to Kyoto, Japan, are here to enjoy the temples, gardens and the historic sites but you'll also find that downtown Kyoto is very appealing, a busy modern shopping area great for people-watching, the famous historic neighborhood, Gion, home of the geisha. Then visiting Kiyomizu-dera is the most popular temple in all of Kyoto, with time for shopping on the narrow lanes.
