Laurel Simmons is the songwriter behind MayMay. The project began as an ode to friends and family back home in Flagstaff, Arizona. Over time it has evolved to become a project played, at various times, with several fellow musicians. Among those included are Heather Woods Broderick, Raúl Pastor Medall and Nicholas Archibald Marshall, all dear friendships found in a new place.

FLAU and raum proudly announces first album of Montreal based Stefan Jós by Devon Hansen aka Lotide (Astro Dynamics:), D.Hansen (Where To Now?). Primitives is the spacious and bugged-out sequel to his last ep Things You Left Behind. Careful restraint remains, but the sober crispiness of the EP is subsumed on Primitives by loose and moody rhythms, wood and metal, weird noises in wet caves and other goodies for ground-dwellers and mole people alike. The Hokkaido-born musician Noah has changed her constantly seen her sound evolving since the release of her 2015 album Sivutie. While she described it as a sonic vision of a daydream scene,” 2019’s Thirty contained a mysterious, vapor-wave-like atmosphere that functioned as a gateway to Tokyo’s urban world. While also incorporating the delicious minimalism of 80s Hong Kong pop, Noah finally realized what she really wanted to express during the challenging first year of the pandemic.
Her rebellion against tradition/authority and her awareness of deep emotions like anger and sadness powered the creation of fascinating collection of songs. The EP featured a varied palette of sounds such as classical instruments like harp and strings, cut-up piano shreds, simple breakbeats, and four on the floor rhythms, creating an admirable balance of gothic and solemnity. Through her music, she was able to create a sightline into her unique worldview that is desolate yet, elegant. The poetry and choruses used in Noahs music open the door to other worlds, culminating in a sound that is both shimmering and elegant.

Machinone, the multi-instrumentalist who hails from Tohoku, Japan, with his gorgeous debut album “Tokyo”, joined the ever expanding artist roster of FLAU.
6 years ago, Machinone (Daizo Kato) from Tohoku, moved to the west side of Tokyo, and opened a new chapter of his life. During these 6 years, he has been drawn to the fascinating surroundings of the town he stayed – a wonderful mix of modernization from the current time and nostalgic vestiges of the urban past. And thus, his debut album “Tokyo” was born – a collection of machinone’s delicate sketches of the town.
Using prepared guitar, with bow and bell, banjo, clarinet, stepping organ, wood toys, tape recorder, small piano, and various other musical instruments, machinone gently outlined his various impressions of Tokyo. Soft finger-picking guitar playing, melodies with a sense of nostalgic, warm tape noise touches, ensemble of lush acoustic instruments, field recordings and ambient sounds that came from outside of his bedroom, encapsulate his sounds in a very unique way. This delicate debut album from machinone also made perfect by guest musicians like Takashi Tsuda, Danny Norbury, Federico Durand, and elegantly mastered by Naph, who all together gave the album wonderful doses of beauty and exquisiteness.
