Lexus Sorted, Scoured, & Spun in 60 seconds The Sip -n- Spin 2023-06-18 | "Lexus" is the California Red fleece that I purchased at this year's Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival. California Red was developed in the 1970's and is a cross between Tunis & Barbados Blackbelly (both are on the SE2SE list). This is an amazing fleece with three distinct lock structures. One was very coarse with quite a bit of VM; the other two were very soft, clean, and had consistent long red fibers. Tour de Fleece Day 10 (Great Wheel at a Great Winery) The Sip -n- Spin 2022-07-15 | Today's episode quickly looks at four different ways to prepare fiber followed by a day of spinning on a great wheel (also called a walking wheel) at a local winery. Because it's a mountain stage I made a Tour de France "King of the Mountain" themed dress with matching hat. I love polka dots!I secure a small piece of wet corn husk to my great wheel spindle. Tour de Fleece Day 5 (Found Object Spinning Tools & Support Spindle Stands) The Sip -n- Spin 2022-07-05 | Found objects can make inexpensive spinning tools. I just realized I forgot about metal double pointed knitting needles! Those were what I originally used with the Play-Doh whorls! They're heavier than wood skewers so they spin faster and longer. As much as I love my spinning spoons, they don't always work. Because I prefer to spin standing, I created a support spinning stand.
