At Kansas State University, students in the Band Instrument Repair Program are learning valuable hands-on skills while making a difference in communities across Kansas. Through the Sawin Arts Extension Program, students travel to rural schools and communities to repair and restore instruments, helping ensure young musicians have access to quality equipment and opportunities to participate in band programs. These experiences combine real-world learning with meaningful community service, benefiting both K-State students and the next generation of Kansas musicians.
From fixing brass and woodwind instruments to supporting school music programs with limited resources, the program is helping preserve music education throughout the state. Students gain practical repair experience while serving Kansas communities and helping keep the arts accessible for all.
