Ein Kranichpaar hatte im Frühjahr 2024 in einem kleinen Moorsee erfolgreich zwei Junge erbrütet. Ich hatte zu dieser Familie schon am 22. Juni diesen Jahres das Video "Kraniche, Familie mit zwei Jungen im Moor --- Cranes, Family with 2 Young in the Moor" veröffentlicht. Nachdem die Jungen geschlüpft waren, verlassen Sie als Nestflüchter schon nach kurzer Zeit das Nest, um mit den Eltern auf Nahrungssuch zu gehen. Zum Übernachten wird aber jeden Abend der alte Neststandort aufgesucht, weil er den besten Schutz vor Räubern bietet. Ende Mai stellte ich dann eine Wildkamera am alten Nest auf, um die Kranichfamilie zu filmen. Vor einigen Tagen wertete ich das entstandene Material aus und musste leider erkennen, dass ab Ende Mai nur noch ein Junges übergeblieben war. Zu meiner Bestürzung stellte ich dann auch noch fest, dass das letzte Junge am 10. Juni das letzte Mal von der Kamera gefilmt wurde. Ab diesem Zeitpunkt gab es kein Lebenszeichen mehr von dem letzten Sprössling. Das ist umso merkwürdiger, weil dieser schon sehr groß war und bald flügge geworden wäre. Ob hier ein größerer Prädator (Wolf/ Uhu) oder doch eine Krankheit Ursache sind, werde ich wohl nie erfahren.
Die Elternkraniche blieben noch bis zum 4. Juli auf der schwimmenden Moorinsel mit ihrem Nest.
Danach war es ihnen wohl wegen der gefallenen Wasserstände dort zu unsicher.
Ich konnte ab dem 17. Juli Waschbären und am 15. August sogar Wildschweine zur Nahrungssuche am Neststandort feststellen.

I had already published the video "Cranes, Family with two Young in the Moor" about this family on June 22nd of this year. After the young have hatched, they leave the nest after a short time to go in search of food with their parents. However, they visit the old nest site every evening to spend the night because it offers the best protection from predators. At the end of May, I set up a wildlife camera at the old nest to film the crane family. A few days ago, I evaluated the material and unfortunately had to realize that by the end of May only one young was left. To my dismay, I then also discovered that the last young was filmed by the camera for the last time on June 10th. From that point on, there was no sign of life from the last offspring. This is all the more strange because it was already very large and would soon have fledged. I will probably never know whether this was caused by a larger predator (wolf/eagle owl) or by an illness.
The parent cranes stayed on the floating moor island with their nest until July 4th.
After that, it was probably too unsafe for them because of the falling water levels.
I noticed raccoons at the nest site from July 17th and even wild boars on August 15th looking for food.
