This is a new Mario game I made in WarioWare DIY. Make Mario jump on top of the koopa, and kick its shell forwards. Also, don't let that Ninji get hurt, or you lose the micro game. ;)
I thought the idea with split screen action would help the player determine when the Ninji should be able to jump over the koopa shell. Of course this method is faked by using objects on the stage that simulate BG movement. I've used a similar method in one of my previous games called MegaMan Rock where you have to enter through the door and the stage transitions to the next screen.
Also, there are actually 2 Ninji objects in this game and 2 koopa shells. The top Ninji simulates the bottom Ninji that can be controlled or tapped by the player to dodge the shell. The shell that moves across Ninji's path on the bottom screen simulates the koopa shell kicked by Mario on the top screen.
So this is pretty much how I made the split screen action in this game.
