Konami has some of the most well known games in the gaming industry, from Metal Gear Solid for consoles and DanceDanceRevolution for arcades... But what hardware actually ran the latter? Is it complex electronic voodoo or something far more familiar to us all? And what is with the 573 number being everywhere?!
UPDATE: Turns out that the digital board RCA plugs are self-terminating ARCnet ports! For those unaware (including myself), ARCnet was a rival format to the likes of Ethernet and Token Ring networks during the early days of desktop computer networking. You might have gathered it did not do super well, but it turns out that ARCnet found it's niche in industrial automation as it was very reliable and predictable. Now, I can't yet say the actual protocol *is* ARCnet, just that the physical layer of the OSI model is, but it's entirely possible the FPGA on the digital board has an ARCnet controller built into the bitstream that is uploaded at boot!
