Here's a theme that I think fits Kokomi pretty well. She's a soft and gentle character who also has the strenuous task of being an army strategist. That brings a lot of pressure with it. I hope you like this! :) All the best to you!
Continuation from the previous episode! Here's my analysis/criticism of this piece: the odd time signature is definitely a bold choice. I've never used this particular time signature before. You can think of it as 3/4 x3 and then 2/4 x1 and just repeat that. I used 11/8 in my DAW (which would be 3/8 + 3/8 + 3/8 + 2/8). Odd time signatures have a greater chance of "losing people" in my experience since it's more difficult to vibe with the beat. It just feels off. This is one reason why odd time signatures could be a great choice for unsettling scenes! However, the mood here is not unsettling. It's quite lively, melancholic and maybe pretty. There's a certain "danceness" to the melodic ideas that struggles to fully come to life due to the time signature. It's not a bad thing, but just an observation that impacts how this piece is interpreted.
Once again, I think the main areas of improvement lie in arrangement and mixing. This time more in mixing, probably as there is simply not that much stuff to arrange here. Also, the chosen instruments already leave plenty of room to breathe: glocken and violins in the high register, cello in the middle, and horns, bassoons and pizzicato bass in the... well.. bass. There's not that much need to use mixing to carve space for certain instruments. One bigger criticism I think applies here is a lack of an end point. I know I made this piece loop but I could've still added something that the piece builds towards before beginning again. Now it feels like that final part just begins when it's time to introduce something new and ends when it starts to feel boring. It doesn't build to an idea that is greater than the part itself.
For future me to learn: structure the piece in your mind and know what you want to build towards (or as is more likely, rearrange the song later to make it seem like you knew all along where you wanted to take it)
