Through a final set of puzzles and battles, Link’s mother once again shows herself to be valiant and true, and earns the deep trust of the Kokiri and of the trees themselves.
She rids the forest of its evil gloom, and finally undoes all of Ganondorf’s dark work. But, weary and wounded from her labour, she has been infected with a darkness that is on the verge of consuming her.
The Kokiri and the Great Deku Tree recognise her valour, and thank her for saving their forest, by taking in her child as one of their own. As she gives up her spirit, the forest honours her sacrifice, transforming her into a sapling in Kokiri Forest, a sign of new life that will one day grow strong enough to be home to a Kokiri.
