In today's video we discuss swatching (flat and in the round using 3 methods) and how a variance in gauge can impact your finished project! This is a "pre-cursor" video to a trilogy that is coming over the next several weeks discussing modifications to sweaters!

*Swatching Exercise*
I used worsted weight yarn on a US 8 / 5 mm circular needle. The cast on method I used is a standard long tail but you can use your preferred method:
*Flat:* Cast on 24 sts. Work garter stitch (knit on RS and WS) for 6 rows.
Row 1 (RS): Knit.
Row 2 (WS): K3, p18, k3.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 to desired length. Then work 6 more rows of garter before binding off.
*Speed Swatch:* Cast on 24 sts. All rows are RS rows.
Row 1: Purl.
Row 2: Knit.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 twice more (6 rows total).
Row 7: P3, k18, p3.
Row 8: Knit.
Rep Rows 7 and 8 to desired length. Then work Rows 1 and 2 three times (6 rows total) before binding off.
*In the Round:* Cast on 72 sts. Place marker for beginning of round and join to work in the round (rnd).
Rnd 1: Purl.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 twice more (6 rows total).
Knit every rnd to desired length. Then work Rnds 1 and 2 three times (6 rnds total) before binding off.
*BONUS: Magic Loop/DPN method for small circumferences:* Cast on 36 stitches; divide evenly over your needles. Place marker for beginning of round (if desired) and join to work in the round (rnd).
Rnd 1: Purl.
Rnd 2: Knit.
Rep Rnds 1 and 2 twice more (6 rows total).
Knit every rnd to desired length. Then work Rnds 1 and 2 three times (6 rnds total) before binding off.
