The tram system in Tunis (Tunisia) has deteriorated a lot in the last 3 years since I last visited. With trams on each line running every 20 to 30 minutes apart, the overcrowding has become terrible. People trying to force their way into overcrowded trams, and hanging onto the doors, while not fitting inside. At the stations are raised traffic barriers that are very close to the tram, which could knock people off who are leaning too far outside the tram. The trams run with the doors open, as people force them open, and also open the overhead panel and break the door mechanism to stop them from closing, meanwhile other doors on the trams are locked shut by maintenance, and people climb through the windows to enter/exit the tram. People board the tram on both sides, even when there isn't a platform. And now the Alstom Citadis trams are running with the doors open. A tram that was not designed for the abusive it is receiving. There are a lot less poles for people to hold onto by the open doors on the Citadis, and some people balance on the edge, with nothing to hold, in a desperation to get where they are going. A lot of the trams have a lack of interior lighting, making them dark after sunset. Some of the people in Tunis after dark are very strange and intimidating. On multiple occasions local people told me to put my phone away as it is likely to get snatched.
