The Beeching Act hit Sodor in the year of 1964. The Kirk Ronan Branchline over time has been losing business to the lorries. Eric the V3 Tank just couldn't keep up with the workload. So, the branchline had to file for bankruptcy and it had to close permanently.
(Note: This video is in no way canon to the Sudrian series. I filmed this video on a whim, and came up with the short.)
