Crux (2023) is an experimental performance panel and installation from New York-based composer, choreographer, and sculptor Kinlaw with contributions from C Prinz, Jas Lin, Miya Folick and ricky sallay zoker. With this project, Kinlaw pushes the process of communication and process to a place of curiosity encouraging their audience to play and explore.
This new work is an innovative take on an artist lecture which uses choreography, controlled feedback systems, sound sculpture, and the movement of speakers to generate a real-time audio composition all while upending and reimagining traditional conceptions of what is expected from an artist talk, a panel discussion, or a performance. The stage design of this artist lecture is fundamental to the flow of the conversation. Kinlaw, alongside selected artists and philosophers of varying practices, work in tandem with the stage design and sculptures to respond to each other on the panel as well as take questions from the audience in real-time.
