King Lake is located in the southern end of Indian Peaks Wilderness near Nederland, Colorado. On a hot and windy Saturday in late June, I decided to check out this lake which I had not visited before. There was still plenty of slushy snow starting about 2 miles from the lake, making the hike a bit more treacherous than usual. I did manage to make it to the lake, which was still partially frozen. After having the lake to myself for about 20 min, I headed up to the Continental Divide to check out Rollins Pass, which is 0.5 mile/300’ above the lake, as the wind died down a bit. Total stats: 13.5 miles with 2800’ elevation gain
