Many know that much of the Psalms were penned by the ancient nation of Israel’s King David. Throughout these Psalms, we find David in several postures: praying, rejoicing, mourning, repenting, praising, and longing. Sometimes, it’s even all occurring within the same Psalm.
But what you may not know is that even today, thousands of years after his death, we find Rabbi’s and observant Jews gathered around the traditional site of his tomb on Mount Zion in Jerusalem doing these very same things. In the spirit of David, these Jewish people gather to recite the Psalms, study the Torah, and mirror the postures of King David in their prayers.
Even now, his heart for God is echoed by God’s chosen people.
This isn’t a fairy tale. It’s history. A rich history that is impacting the prayers and practice of a people, even today!
