Energy is a scalar quantity measured in joules (J). One form is kinetic energy, which is energy due to motion. An object's kinetic energy depends on its mass and its speed. Kinetic energy is defined mathematically as K=(1/2)mv^2. Any moving macroscopic object possesses kinetic energy. The particles in matter also possess kinetic energy, leading to macroscopic energy effects like thermal energy and sound.
