Hey guys, it's Mike with Drone Deer Recovery!
A while back, we traveled to Catalina Island with Howl for Wildlife to see the mule deer situation firsthand. The Catalina Island Conservancy claims there are nearly 2,000 deer on the island β introduced for hunting over 100 years ago β and says they're overpopulated, mowing down rare native plants with no natural predators. We brought our thermal drones to survey the interior and get a real sense of the numbers and impact. Watch the footage we captured in the rugged, uninhabited areas and hear about the controversy surrounding the conservancy's eradication plan.
