Galway reached their first All Ireland Hurling Final for seventeen years where they faced Kilkenny.
63,711 were at Croke Park for the All Ireland Hurling Final on 7 September 1975 as Kilkenny won their 20th title. The Galway team and supporters came to their first final since 1958 with great hope having beaten Cork in the semi final. On the day however Kilkenny proved strong wining with a scoreline of 2-22 to 2-10.
Eddie Keher scored both Kilkenny goals on his way to winning a sixth All Ireland Hurling medal. After eighteen minutes Frank Burke offered Galway some hope with a goal that left the Connacht side ahead by 1-03 to 0-03. Kilkenny replied with 6 unanswered points to lead at half time 0-09 to 1-03. In the second half the Leinster side were even more dominant and took complete control in the last 26 minutes outscoring Galway by 1-10 to 0-05. A delighted 21 year old Kilkenny captain Billy Fitzpatrick accepted the Liam McCarthy trophy.
