Aug 18, 6:38 AM HST
Strong glow and spattering at north vent. Gas-pistoning resumed. Episode 31 likely soon (Aug 19–20).
Aug 21, 8:01 PM HST
Gas piston cycles every ~10 minutes as summit inflates.
Aug 21, 8:45–8:48 PM HST
Short overflow (less than 100 feet), followed by drainback and fountaining.
Aug 22, 6:20 AM HST
Gas piston cycles continue overnight with rapid inflation. Episode 31 expected today or tomorrow.
Aug 22, 8:30–11:45 AM HST
Spattering builds inner cone with 10–20 foot fountains. Precursory overflows begin at 11:45 AM.
Aug 22, 1:57 PM HST
Dome fountains increase to 20–40 feet, feeding a narrow lava flow about 1000 feet across the crater floor. Episode 31 imminent.
Aug 22, 2:04 PM HST
Episode 31 begins. Fountains grow to over 325 feet from north vent at a 45-degree angle.
Aug 22, 8:45 PM HST
Oblique fountains continue from north vent. Spattering at south vent feeds small flows. Expected to last another 3–6 hours.

Episode 31 ends after 12.6 hours. Lava covers about 75 percent of Halemaʻumaʻu floor.
