This is my one year video for Blackjack and I! Although I stopped leasing him in January I've seen and ridden him several times since for his owners so he's still been a part of my life in some way.
A year ago on July 23rd was the day my lease with him began :) He's kind of faded to the background lately and I haven't seen him in a little while but I really appreciate the amazing 6 months he gave me because he helped me grow and learn so much in that time. So this is for him to celebrate the wonderful year he gave me. I wish things were as good right now as they were when I had him a year ago but it's fun to look back at the memories and all we accomplished.

I cant believe its only been 6 months!
I often forget how things were when I met this horse. In the beginning our rides were very difficult and frustrating, sometimes nearly getting thrown off almost every other day. I did some things out of impatience and frustration that Im not proud of, and Willow was very reserved and quiet with not much personality. I do wish I had more footage from this time to really show how far weve come. But regardless, I am so proud of this horse. And I still cannot believe hes mine. Having a horse was all I ever wanted for years and I never thought it would be him. I wasnt sure I was going to be good enough for him when I saw his ad online, but my motto at that time was Nothing ventured, nothing gained pretty much. I took a chance on him and it paid off in the most amazing way.
These past few weeks Willow has really blossomed and grown into his own. He finally feels safe and trusts me enough to show me his true personality, and hes revealed how playful and fun loving he can be.
He will never be an easy horse. Hes hot and opinionated and he has a very soft and sensitive soul. But Im glad hes not easy. Im hopeful that one day Ill be able to look back and say that we made it. But hes already made me, in all honesty. Hes made me patient. Hes made me kinder and softer. Hes made me complete.
I wouldnt want it any other way. Whether he becomes a brilliant jumper and cleans it up at shows or becomes an all-around happy hacker, all that matters is that hes happy. I have promised to never take advantage of his gentle soul and so long as hes happy, nothing else matters.
Hes my best friend, and one of the best things to ever happen to me. He will always be a piece of me. I cant wait for the years we have left together.")
