Okay I wasn't actually kidnapped...more like adopted. The locals of Medellin took me in as one of their own...a very common experience here.
Today we're in Comuna 13...the former most dangerous neighborhood in all of Colombia. During the Pablo Escobar days, this was a war zone between the narcos, guerrillas, communists, and police. Our tour guide told us stories of civilians getting gunned down in the streets, of mass graves piled up with murder victims...of endless violence for over a decade. It's a gruesome history. But Colombia has changed- see for yourself. I asked the locals "Is Colombia safe?" and got an overwhelmingly unanimous response.
I got a few interviews with locals and I got a real sense of the vibe of this place. As always, thanks for coming along.
