The process taken to manufacture and assemble a sample quantity, of a PCB design made in KiCad, from China.
The cost of five of these PCBs assembled was £22.70. The delivery cost was £3.97 for Royal Mail tracked and it took about two weeks to arrive from the order being placed. If customs intercept and charge for purchases over £15, Royal Mail will charge the customs 20% VAT and handling charge of £8. These PCBs didn't get intercepted by customs, but I have had PCBs intercepted and the additional charges required before Royal Mail will complete the delivery. JLC PCB do offer other, much faster, delivery options and a delivery option where they pay VAT up front for you.
