I dreamt these messages all appeared at the Saudi consulate in Turkey, in October of 2018, seemingly without human intervention. Traced on a mirror, entered into a computer, smeared on a bulletproof glass partition; finger-painted in dark dried red on a wall; scratched on the newly waxed floor; traced in the pile of a freshly installed carpet; in stencil letters cut out from adjacent polystyrene dropout ceiling tiles; letters cut from the day's newspaper before it had been opened, the phrase arranged neatly and affixed somehow to the blank space at the top of the page; in dripping fresh wet red, under the royal images properly set in gilt frames on the wall.
The messages were all made out of the same seventeen letters.
And they haunted my dreams for months.
