actually completed the battle mania daiginjou-styled seisyun complex arrange that i did as a joke, never did i expect for bocchi the rock to be my favorite anime of the year..,.,, so that's a good thing yeah! sorry if it bothers you haha it just came so suddenly
ever since i got into btr through over-the-top comedy segments posted to youtube, this theme has been living in my head rent free,,, as a person whose tastes in anime don't go too far than the average fan (i really only watch lupin iii and pop team epic if i even watch anime at all) i loved bocchi the rock! a lot! what really intrigued me was the musician aspect of me, which i'd naturally, as a musician, would be interested in. i'm not in some teenage punk rock band or anything, but as a sole musician i really appreciate the thought put into the adaptation.
expect maybe like one or two things out of this i guess.
hoping for a season 2!! #ぼっちざろっく ftw!!

a hitoshi sakimoto styled original lava reef, whod ve thought.
Writing for this has a new obstacle for me to get over. At first when I jotted whatever I thought of down, I couldnt decide on whether I should use this for an Act 1 or an Act 2. I decided on using this for Act 2, Act 1 will have a little livelier and quicker alteration to boot.
I took some inspirations from Freedom Planets Dragon Valley 2 theme, which is obviously where the idea of using a 6/8 time signature came from. Hitoshi Sakimotos instrumentation style is so interesting to study and recapture the feeling of, and I had the idea before making this song anyway. Not much to say here other than the fact that this is a much more general John Tay thing if anything.
One thing to note:
There comes the concern of me tagging my works as Sonic-related when its obviously just an entirely new soundtrack, to which I dont necessarily care about. Obviously that concern is definitely appreciated, but I did start this project for a reason, yknow.
The main reason why I started writing for this project and asked for others help was because I was inspired by Leila Wilson (aka Woofle)s Sonic 3 Alternate back in 2015. I set out to do the same thing given no real limits outside of just make a good song and have it done with, giving me and anyone else involved more creative freedom and more chances to show off what the Mega Drives two dinky soundchips could handle under good hands...
...though what kept me going was the fact that Ive never actually completed a project like this before. It gives me the experience that I most needed to try and point out some personal mistakes as well as hone in my craft to the fullest. Giving myself a theme that I am comfortably attached to and care about gives me more of a reason to write. I apologize if you actually have this concern regarding this project.

Writing this reminded me of how hard it is to write orchestral themes sometimes. I dont think a lot of chiptune artists tackle this genre a lot so I didnt really have much references in terms of modern takes on orchestra.
Sky Sanctuary itself has some of the same qualities as orchestral tracks that youd hear every now and then, and this alternate Sky Sanctuary embraces that even more. I did write and arrange a few orchestral themes here and there, but usually the result isnt so great; especially when I have close to no ideas for how to write sections, bridges, so on and so forth.
I took inspirations from Motoaki Takenouchi, Hitoshi Sakimoto, and even a bit of Chrono Trigger, and I have studied these works in the past, yet here I am struggling a tad. I suppose in the end, the result is fine, and it actually fits pretty nicely with the zone itself. Usually when I finish writing a track I play Sonic 3 A.I.R. with the music off and play the alternate tracks instead. For the most part, they work like a charm.
