Kershaw County Sheriff Lee Boan’s testimony in the state’s criminal trial of former Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) Deputy Johnathan Goldsmith.
Informally known as “the hammer,” Goldsmith was found guilty of Second Degree Assault and Battery and Misconduct in Office on Friday, August 6, 2024.
Despite his victim requesting the maximum sentence of 13 years incarcerated, S.C. Circut Court Judge Robert Hood sentenced Goldsmith to 364 days incarcerated.
“We’ve all been in situations where we get real angry,” said Sheriff Boan under oath. “Later on, when we calm down, we realize that we wish we hadn’t done what we done.”
