Keith McCarty’s career in motorcycle racing is a story of quiet leadership, dedication, and lasting impact. He first joined Yamaha in 1977, a young guy who simply wanted to be around motorcycles. Not long after, he found himself working with Bob Hannah, one of the most dominant riders of the era. Together, they earned multiple AMA Supercross and outdoor championships, and those early years laid the foundation for everything that followed.
As Keith’s role grew, so did his influence. He eventually led Yamaha’s entire racing division, helping guide the brand to success across motocross, Supercross, road racing, and more. While he rarely stood in the spotlight, his behind-the-scenes work helped build some of the most successful programs in the sport. He was the steady presence that teams could count on, the one who kept things running smoothly no matter how intense the pressure.
Keith played a part in shaping the careers of some of the most respected racers in the sport. Josh Hayes, Cameron Beaubier, Garrett Gerloff, JD Beach, and many others thrived under his guidance.
