GreenGraffiti and Drew Brophy: In the summer of 2013, Drew Brophy and GreenGraffiti, on behalf of Keen Europe, executed the world's first and largest reverse graffiti sidewalk mural at the Hamburg Globetrotter in Germany. It was a huge success which resulted in a strong increase in sales for Keen Europe and Globetrotter. The mural was over 100 meters square.
This year they decided to work with Drew live! Similar idea but this time the art and interpretation of Keen's philosophy of #FollowYourFeet was applied freehand. It is the world's largest freehand template sidewalk mural.
(GreenGraffiti is known for their "Green Advertising." Working with some of the largest, most loved global brands, GreenGraffiti has turned advertising into art.)
The Process: Drew designs and draws the artwork for the templates and overall design. GreenGraffiti takes the designs and cuts giant templates (stencils) out of steel and recycled materials. Together they will freehand the design on location, using giant "airbrush" power washers, working with the dirt on the sidewalk.
Only a handful of illustrators in the world know these techniques of creating, designing and executing the art for such a project. Drew is one of the few artists who has mastered this technique and process.
Once applied, the design stays for about 4 weeks, then GreenGraffiti goes out and clears it, leaving a shiny, clean sidewalk for the community to enjoy!
In the words of Jim Bowes of GreenGraffiti, "Dirty public space is a valuable public asset" !
*REVERSE GRAFFITI is also known as clean tagging, dust tagging, grime writing. GreenGraffiti or "clean advertising" is a method of creating temporary or semi-permanent images on walls or other surfaces by removing dirt from a surface using giant power washers and stencils.
